June News and Pirate Training!

What a fantastic few weeks we have had in 1st class. Lots of work in all curricular areas has been done. Not to mention the wonderful day we had on our school tour in Kippure Estate! Take a look below to see what we have been up to!
Training to be Pirates on our School Tour

Well shiver me timbers mateys, we had an absolutely  fantastic day at Kippure Estate County Wicklow training to be pirates! A huge thank you to all the efforts made dressing up as pirates and huge congratulations to Yusoef who won the prize for best costume!

We set off quite early and hopped on the bus ready for a day of fun. Our first activity was a Pirate Treasure Hunt. . .

The scenery was beautiful and the midges took a liking to us all too, we must be tasty as they kept following us everywhere! We found the treasure and set off for our next stage of the adventure which was building a pirate shelter! All hands on deck mateys!

I think we would survive in that shelter, don`t you?!
During our adventure Clíona, our guide, was very knowledgeable about all the plants and animals we encountered and even showed us how to de-sting a nettle and eat it! We also got to eat edible leaves and billberries  in the woodland. Clíona kindly made bramble tea for us to drink with our lunch! It really was fun!

The final part of our training was launching bottle rockets! We learned that less water and more air made the bottle fly further into the air as if it is filled too much, gravity pushes it down.

The weather was gorgeous and we thoroughly enjoyed our day. All the boys and girls passed their pirate training and are all successful pirates now. The boys and girls behaved wonderfully and presented our school so well! Well done 1st class, you are all super!

In other news. . . . . Maths
We had fun learning about time and even got a chance to learn about o clock and half past outside using hula hoops as the face and branches as the hands!

The children worked so hard learning how to rename when adding tens and units up to 99. I am a very proud teacher and all the boys and girls know when to rename. The rhyme we used to help us was
"Up to 9 , everything`s fine,
10 or more, bring your ten next door!"

History and Science
It was great fun learning about the story of the famous ship that sank, Titanic. The boys and girls were so interested and I am sure you have heard all about it at home! Linking in with learning about the Titanic in History, we also learned about Floating and Sinking in Science and used great investigating skills to do some experiments.

P.E/Active Schools
Students from Riversdale have been doing a Transition Year Sports Leadership Programme for the past number of weeks.
This is part of an initiative with Fingal Sports Council.  We are lucky enough to be part of it too. Students from Riversdale school came to visit us to show us some of the skills they have learned and did some P.E activities with every class. It was a great opportunity for the children.

It has been a busy and fun year in First Class, I hope you all enjoyed visiting our blog. It has been a pleasure teaching all the children in First Class. Have a happy and safe summer everyone!

All About April in First Class

Summer is upon us and we hope you are all enjoying the fantastic weather! Below are some of the wonderful learning that has taken place in First Class over the past month. Active Schools Week took place at the end of April and boy oh boy was it fun! Take a look below to see what we have been up to!
In Maths class we focused on Operations and Place Value. The children have been working on using mental strategies to add and subtract within 100. Things like adding in tens is a great trick to use and knowing that if you can add 10 then adding 9 is simple too! Please help your children to use mental strategies to add and subtract!

We are busy as ever in English class. Not only have we been busy writing but we have also gotten a visit from the mobile library bus. It will come to visit our school every second week and saying we love to seen it coming is a huge understatement! We have finished getting powerhour books home now in First Class but the children will be bringing library books home instead. Happy reading everyone!

In S.E.S.E we are learning all about Ireland and becoming familiar with the History of Ireland too. The boys and girls have been busy learning the provinces and we are working on the counties. There are a lot to remember! We learned all about spring and went on flower hunt  We are also very excited as we have started planting lots of vegetables with the Riversdale students every Thursday. We definitely have green fingers now!Take a look!

This month our topic in Art is Fabric and Fibre so we will be exploring using different types of fabric and fibre to create art pieces. Have a look at our first piece of art. We used lots of types of fabric and fibre and laminated it after. We are wonderful artists in first class!

Active Schools Week
Active Schools Week was a huge success! The boys and girls are really understanding the importance of being active on a daily basis. Remember a child needs about 60
minutes of exercise every day so please encourage your child to get this!It is so important that they learn this from a young age and what parents do , children will do!
So many activities were organised and to name but a few, Wake up and shake up, Yoga, Boxercise, Tug of War Tuesday, Active Picnic, Ultimate Frisbee, HIT, Basketball and Sports Fancy Dress Fun Run. We hope everyone had fun!

Our Learning in 1st Class-March 2017

                                   Spring is Here!
1st class have been springing into step when it comes to their learning during the month of March. Lots of fun has been had when learning about a variety of topics at Shaheeda Zainab School. Take a ;look at what has been happening in our class.

We have covered a lot of topics since you visited our blog last.

1st class are consolidating their sense of numbers to 100 and have been working hard to develop mental strategies for learning addition and subtraction. Our favourite has to be using our doubles and doubles plus 1 to help us learn our tables. Please keep helping your child to learn their tables each night.

We are also learning about many other topics such as length. The children are enjoying learning how to estimate, measure and record lengths of different things using non-standard units such as cubes and lollipop sticks.

We are focusing on a different genre of writing every month. This month we are looking at Writing to Socialise.Texts used to socialise help children to maintain or enhance relationships with friends or family.

We have written a number of writing pieces such as postcards, thank you notes and text messages.

We are looking forward to writing phone messages and emails before the end of term!

The topic this month is printing. The boys and girls have enjoyed using a variety of printing tools to test out their printing skills.
We were very creative in 1st class using everyday items, cardboard, wool and bubble wrap to create printing pictures. We are going to use styrofoam next week!

and Active Flag
We are trying our very best to achieve the Active Schools Flag in our school. Lots of new initiatives have been put in place like Super Troopers, Active Bell, Active Line, Friday Fun Run, Bizzy Breaks and lots more! We also started
Let’s Get Active- The 4 week activity challenge this week. This is a fun way to encourage children to get at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day by recording (in your pocket planners) how much activity they do each day. After 4 weeks, they will be awarded with a certificate of achievement and a special sports guest is going to come to our school to do an Ultimate Frisbee taster session to mark this achievement.
Please keep an eye on our active school flag blog post too! It takes a lot of effort to achieve the active flag and we are delighted to see so many parents joining us for Friday Fun Run. We would love if all parents came along and got involved as it sends out a great message to your children about being healthy and active individuals

We started Juz 29 تبارك. We learned some more Tafseer and stories mentioned in the Quran. We enjoyed learning Sura المدثر and Surah المزمل .. We have learned half of Juz تبارك and we are excited to complete the Juz In-ShaAllah. We continue to revise Juz Ammah. We are ready to take part in the Quran competition In-ShaAllah in April

We have learned so much in Arabic. We enjoyed learning Maths الجمع addition in Arabic. We learned to count to 299. We practiced our Arabic reading book, we enjoyed reading (آداب الطعام)  and (آداب النوم) according to our Deen and Sunnah. We did really well in our Friday Arabic spelling test الإملاء..  We enjoyed having an Arabic conversation with each other, that was really fun!  We enjoyed our Arabic movie time
